What is Lumecca Intense Pulse Light Therapy?

Lumecca is a cutting-edge intense pulsed light (IPL) device by InMode, which can reduce the appearance of pigmented and vascular lesions, and significantly improve skin tone. Lumecca uses selective photothermolysis, a light therapy that uses specific wavelengths to target pigmented areas and break down discoloration. Because the light therapy is so precise, healthy surrounding tissue is not affected or damaged during the process.

What are the benefits of Lumecca?

Safe and effective, Lumecca is excellent for treating a range of discoloration concerns, including: age spots, freckles, Spider veins (telangiectasia), and rosacea. It can also improve overall skin texture. Lumecca can be used on all areas of the body. IPL therapy is commonly used on the face, décolletage, legs, and hands. Lumecca can be used on a range of skin tones and types, including darker skin. Whether the skin is uneven due to photo damage or superficial veins, Lumecca can improve the appearance of the skin in a single session.

How does Lumecca work?

During treatment, a beam of light is directed to the treatment area. Patients typically report no discomfort during the treatment. After the treatment, the skin will feel warm and appear reddish for 30-60 minutes, after which the skin returns to normal.

After the treatment, the pigmented spots will appear darker temporarily. Within about a week or two, the dark spots will start to fade, revealing a more even complexion. If superficial blood vessels are being treated, they will typically begin to disappear over the course of a couple weeks. To increase the success of the Lumecca Treatment, sunlight should be avoided before and immediately after treatment; sun protection should be used to maintain results.

Depending on the extent and condition of the treatment area, multiple sessions may be recommended. The number of treatments will also vary depending on what is being addressed. Dr. Hellman is an expert at treating skin discolorations and can recommend the best way to achieve brilliant skin. Contact Dr. Judith Hellman to schedule your Lumecca consultation.
